W piątek byłam na weselu - głównie tajlandzkim. Były to w zasadzie poprawiny po rzeczywistym ślubie, który odbył się ze dwa miesiące temu w Bangkoku.
Rzecz zorganizowano z wielką pompą - w szpanerskiej sali bankietowej, z imprezą na ponad 600 osób, z obecnością grubych ryb typu konsulowie Tajlandii, Filipin i Belgii (gdzie Belgia, gdzie Tajlandia??) oraz Sekretarz Stanu Jesse White.
Z jednej strony wielkie bankiety (a nawet małe) to zupełnie nie moje środowisko; z drugiej jednak fajnie jest pooglądać różności, jakich nie widzi się na codzień: tajlandzką śpiewaczkę (chyba jakaś ichnia gwiazda, bo zgotowano jej wielkie owacje), kilka grup muzycznych, sześciopiętrowy tort weselny, sałatki z kwiatami orchidei (niektórzy nawet je zjedli; orchidea to bardzo tajlandzka roślina, a przy tym kwiaty rzeczywiście są jadalne). No i tajlandzkie tancerki - udało mi się kawalątek sfilmować, choć niemal spod stołu. Takoż i jakość pozostawia wiele do życzenia.
On Friday I attended a Thai wedding - or a wedding banquet, because the marrying ceremony itself took place in Bangkok a couple months ago.
The event was organized with great pomp - in an elaborate banquet hall and over 600 people in attendance. That included several big wigs like the consuls of Thailand, the Philippines and Belgium (Belgium and Thailand? strange mix), and the Secretary of State Jesse White.
On one hand, big banquets, and even small ones, are totally not my element. On the other hand, though, it's cool to see unusual things, like a Thai singer (she must be a star there - there was a huge ovation, applause, flowers etc.), several musical ensembles, a six-tier wedding cake and salads with orchid flowers (some even ate them - orchids are very Thai plants, and they are in fact edible). The most fun part for me - Thai dancers. I managed to catch a little bit on my camera, but I was practically filming from under a table, so the quality leaves much to be desired.
